That's it, my motor is blown. Let me recap for you what the last year has
brought to my doorstep and then gather your opinions on what to do.April: Perform the 60k kit w/ UD pulley. Everything is fine for a few
hundred miles and then the car develops a miss at 3200rpm. This
continues until September when I finally solve it (after about $1200
being thrown at parts as guesses). Ends up I didn't line up the CAS to the
camshaft properly and it snapped the stud off. October: I replaced the camshaft and clutc which took 5 weeks and i
finally got the car back in early November. The Nissan dealership was a
total nightmare which included popping my tire and leaving the vacuum
lines disconnected. Today: I have driven the car for 993 miles since the camshaft and clutch
were replaced, take it in for an oil change, and come out with a blown
motor. The amount of smoke pooring out of both exhaust pipes is
somewhere near the ridiculous level. I tow the car home, start checking
spark plugs, and it's official, althought very weird; the 1,2,3, and 6 spark
plugs are drenched in oil, not 4 or 5 though (I'm counting 6 as the pass
side closest to the firewall). So what the hell? warped/cracked heads?
cracked block? the incredible occurance of 4 piston rings blowing at the
same time? Or perhaps Nissan didn't torque everything on properly and
pooring cold oil in the hot motor caused it to crack. Only Lord knows... So, what are my options? I'm in college and the way I see it;
1) sell the car for way less than I owe on it. As a result, be carless for a
year or two.
2) rebuild it from top to bottom, leaving me without a car for months or a
year.
3) buy a front TT clip and make something possitive out of such a shitty
year/situation. What would ya'll do? How much would options 2 and 3 run me? could i do
them myself? I consider myself very mechanical but perhaps lack some
knowledge as far as rebuilding goes. Thanks guys, and please help, I'm
so sick of this car.
